SUCCESSFUL NETWORKING SESSIONS WITH INDONESIAN TRAVEL TOURISM PARTNERS TO BOOST FOOTFALL AND RETAIL GROWTH AT MOP KLIA IN 2026

Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA Sepang Concludes Networking Sessions with Indonesian Travel Trade and Tourism Partners in Its Plan for Visit Malaysia 2026

Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA Sepang (MOP KLIA), Japan’s branded factory outlet shopping mall, recently concluded a series of business-to-business networking sessions with Indonesian travel trade and tourism partners, reinforcing its position as a key retail destination supporting Visit Malaysia (VM) 2026 inbound recovery and growth.

Held in Jakarta and subsequently in Medan, with the theme ‘Discover KLIA Attractions’, the sessions were organised in close collaboration with Tourism Malaysia’s Jakarta and Medan offices as the main strategic partners; alongside other Malaysian partners including Tourism Selangor, LaLaport BBCC and Gamuda Land’s SplashMania Water Park to collectively promote their destinations to explore collaboration opportunities and strengthen bilateral tourism and retail initiatives at MOP KLIA.

The strategic engagement underscores MOP KLIA’s proactive approach to securing early placement in 2026 tour packages and curated itineraries. It also reinforces efforts to strengthen partnerships with both offline and online travel platforms, and other key stakeholders across both countries.

Frankie Lee, Executive General Manager of Operations for MOP KLIA Sepang, who attended the networking session, said the initiative aligns closely with Visit Malaysia 2026, which aims to boost visitor arrivals and support the growth of Malaysia’s tourism and retail sectors. He expressed confidence that the session not only opened new business opportunities, but also reinforces relations between Malaysia and Indonesia, while expanding the industry network and promoting more inclusive and sustainable tourism initiatives.

“We greatly value our collaboration with Tourism Malaysia Jakarta and Medan, which highlights the shared commitment of both countries to strengthen the tourism sector and drive economic growth”, Lee added.

The initiative was well received by Tourism Malaysia’s Jakarta office, which acknowledged the programme’s significance in enhancing tourism ties between Malaysia and Indonesia, particularly in support of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, themed “Surreal Experience” – showcasing Malaysia’s rich culture, diverse cuisine, and world-class shopping.

“The office is committed to working with MOP KLIA and its strategic partners to deepen tourism collaboration, enhance visitor experiences, and promote MOP KLIA and Malaysia as a premier travel and shopping destination,” said Siti Hajar Mohd Yunus, Deputy Director of Tourism Malaysia’s Jakarta Office. She also expressed appreciation to Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA for organising the session and fostering collaboration with Indonesian travel trade partners.

Also present at the networking session in Medan was Shahril Nizam Abdul Malek, Malaysian Consul General from the Tourism Malaysia’s Medan office. He emphasised that cross-sector collaboration, including tourism associations and local governments in North Sumatra, plays a crucial role in supporting economic and tourism growth between both Malaysia and Indonesia.

"To ensure a strong economy for both counties, various projects and programmes must be jointly supported. We hope that cooperation between tourism associations in Medan can continue to improve,” he added.

As one of Malaysia’s leading outlet shopping destinations located just minutes from KLIA, MOP KLIA draws its largest number of inbound visitors from Indonesia, accounting for 34.4% of its overall traffic. The mall sees strong potential to attract both shopping enthusiasts and family leisure travelers, with high conversion opportunities.
