Synonymous with efforts to uphold the nation’s textile heritage, celebrity Bkay Nair once again presents an exciting blend of elements in the traditional attire of the country’s diverse communities.

In conjunction with the upcoming Malaysian Heritage Showcase 2024 (MHS2024) fashion show, which will take place next month, Bkay introduces the traditional Indian attire, the sari, made from batik textiles.

“This is the unique feature we are bringing this year, scheduled for November 23rd, where one of the main highlights will be 6 Yards of Beauty, focusing on the sari made from batik textiles, which is part of our heritage and national identity.

“Even more interesting is my effort to source batik handcrafted by prisoners in the country’s prisons, as a way of support and attraction this time, as they produce batik with very high artistic value,” she said during a press conference at Bungalow 37 here.

She explained that the choice of batik for this event, organized by Bkay Nair Resources with the support of the Malaysian Fashion Business Development Association (MFBDA), aims to showcase batik as a textile capable of producing various fashion styles and cuts according to the designers’ creativity.

Additionally, Bkay, who starred in the film Ratu The Movie, stated that the effort to introduce batik on a more commercial platform could generate income for those involved in the industry.

“MHS2024 will also recognize and provide the Best Designer Award, which was introduced last year, to honor the designers who are contributing to elevating the local textile heritage.

“We also received support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia (MOTAC) for this event, which has attracted participation from local designers.

“Apart from the sari, designers will also showcase various designs using batik textiles, such as shirts and gowns, which can be worn for special occasions or commercial purposes,” she said.

Meanwhile, Bkay, who is also the president of MFBDA, expressed her happiness and gratitude that a fashion business association has finally been established in the country, with her entrusted to lead it.

“I appreciate the support and trust given to me, and I will strive to do my best to ensure that the fashion industry in this country continues to grow.

“Various plans have been laid out, including workshops and discussion sessions to strengthen relationships among industry players in related fields, and to explore opportunities for collaboration,” she said.
