Ice Plant Discovery

I wanna introduce you to this unique vegetable, the Ice Plant which I had during my lou sang session last week. I was surprised by the amount of greens on my yee sang at one of the Chinese Restaurants in Puchong where I had my "Hoi Kung Chow". This was where I first came in contact with the Ice Plant. In fact it goes really well with my Lou Sang.

It's called the  Ice Plant or Ping Choy ((冰菜). It's scientific name is Mesembryanthemum crystallinum (ficoide glaciale)  The texture is crunchy and does not leave any residue when you eat it. It has an ice-crystal like formation on its stem. Geli nak tengok sometimes and so fun to poke.

It makes a great salad due to its crunchy nature. If you ever need to try, you can get a box at Jaya Grocer, priced at RM7.90. I find this a rather interesting vegetable. Surprisingly when I shared this on y facebook, many friends say they enjoy this too! My new found favourite vegetable besides the Rocket.
